Mello tabbed Big 12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference selected University of Texas sophomore Maggie Mello on Monday as its Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after Mello scored singles and doubles victories to help the Horns to a victory Saturday over Texas A&M. Mello (Laguna Hills, Calif.) knocked off Texas A&M’s Lauren Santacroce by a 6-2, 6-4 count at fourth singles in the Longhorns’ 5-2 win over the Aggies on Saturday, March 7 in Austin. Mello also teamed up with UT freshman Krista Damico to score a 9-8 (4) win at second doubles over A&M’s Morgan Frank and Christi Liles. This marks Mello’s first career selection as the Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. Mello and the Longhorns return to action on Friday, March 13 when they host California at UT’s Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
