Women's Tennis preview: William & Mary, Florida
WHAT: No. 27 Texas (3-1) resumes the 2008 dual-match season against No. 16 William & Mary and No. 5 Florida. UT students attending the Florida match will receive free pizza between the singles and doubles matches, and the first 50 tennis club members attending the Florida match will receive rally towels. LAST MEETING WITH WILLIAM & MARY: Texas defeated William & Mary by a 5-2 margin on March 13, 2006 in Williamsburg, Va. LAST MEETING WITH FLORIDA: Florida dealt Texas a 5-2 defeat on Feb. 17, 2007 in Gainesville, Fla. THE 2008 LONGHORNS: Texas returns six letterwinners from the 2007 squad that totaled an 18-12 record, reached the NCAA round of 32 and claimed a share of the Big 12 Conference regular season championship. UT is led by sophomore Vanja Corovic, the 2007 Big 12 Conference Freshman and Newcomer of the Year, who earned a berth in the 64-player singles draw at the 2007 NCAA Championship. Texas also returns All-Big 12 singles standout Stephanie Davison and junior Marija Milic, who earned All-Big 12 doubles honors alongside Corovic last season. The Longhorns have won their last two matches since suffering their only loss of the season on Jan. 26 at Arizona State. Texas defeated TCU and Rice by 5-2 margins in its most recent outings.
