GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- No. 22 Texas (4-2) picked up singles victories from freshmen Sarah Lancaster and Vanja Corovic, but No. 4 Florida dealt the Longhorns a 5-2 defeat Saturday afternoon at Florida's Ring Tennis Complex.
Texas opened doubles play with a win as Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and sophomore Marija Milic (Etobicoke, Ontario) dealt Csilla Borsanyi and Anastasia Revzina an 8-4 defeat at the third position. However, Florida produced an 8-5 win at the first position, and Florida's Megan Alexander and Diana Srebrovic outlasted UT seniors Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) and Ristine Olson (Missoula, Mont.) at the second slot to capture the doubles point.
Florida posted straight-set victories at the first, fifth, sixth and second positions to clinch the team victory before Texas got on the board with victories at the fourth and third slots. Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) defeated Borsanyi by a 6-4, 6-2 margin at fourth singles before Corovic upset Florida's 78th-ranked Whitney Benik in convincing fashion, 6-4, 6-3.
Texas returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 24 when it hosts Nebraska at 1 p.m. at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
