No. 8 Miami downs No. 22 Women's Tennis, 4-3
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- No. 22 Texas (4-1) picked up singles victories from senior Ristine Olson and freshmen Vanja Corovic and Sarah Lancaster, but No. 8 Miami (Fla.) outlasted the Longhorns, winning by a 4-3 count Friday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Texas collected an 8-3 victory at third doubles from Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and sophomore Marija Milic (Etobicoke, Ontario) over Gina Sabatino and Emily Mowery, but the Hurricanes took the remaining two matches at the first and second positions to clinch the doubles point. Corovic, who opened the season authoritatively with four straight-set singles victories, improved her dual-match record to 5-0 with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Romy Farah at the third position. Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) went to three sets against Miami's Caren Seenauth at the fourth slot and prevailed, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. Olson (Missoula, Mont.) topped Claudia Wasilewski in a first-set tiebreaker at sixth singles and ran away with the second set, 6-1, for the third Texas point. Victories from Audra Cohen, Audrey Banada and Gina Sabatino at the first, second and fifth positions were enough to push the Hurricanes past the Longhorns. Texas concludes its road swing on Saturday when it meets No. 4 Florida at the Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla. First serve is set for 10 a.m. Central. No. 8 Miami 4, No. 22 Texas 3 Singles
