AMES, Iowa -- No. 20 Texas claimed two of three doubles matches and swept all six singles matches on its way to a season-opening 7-0 win over Iowa State on Friday afternoon at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center. "We're happy to get our first win of the season, especially on the road," said second-year UT coach Patty Fendick-McCain. "We'll need a similar effort on Saturday to win at Kansas." The Longhorns dropped the No. 1 doubles match before winning at the second and third positions to claim the doubles point. Seniors Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) and Ristine Olson (Missoula, Mont.) made short work of Iowa State's Jill Palen and Caitlin Loprinzi, winning by an 8-2 margin at the second slot. Freshman Vanja Corovic (Belgrade, Serbia) and sophomore Marija Milic (Etobicoke, Ontario) secured the doubles point with an 8-5 win over the Cyclones' Chrissy Derouin and Alyssa Palen at the third position. UT freshman Sarah Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) made an impressive dual-match debut, blanking ISU's Alyssa Palen, 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth slot. Olson followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Derouin at the fifth position. Corovic also completed a successful dual-match debut, defeating Iowa State's Loprinzi by a 6-2, 6-4 count at the third slot.
