Women's Tennis falls to No. 26 Arizona State in season opener
TEMPE, Ariz. -- No. 26 Arizona State captured the doubles point and claimed five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over No. 3 Texas at ASU's Whiteman Tennis Center. UT drops to 0-1 on the season. Texas senior Kelly Baritot (Allison Park, Pa.) and sophomore Courtney Zauft (San Antonio, Texas) defeated ASU's Laila Abdala and Wendy Pilecka at the No. 3 doubles position by an 8-3 count, but the Sun Devils were victorious at the remaining two positions to take the doubles point. Junior Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) set aside ASU's Roxanne Clarke at No. 2 singles, winning in a 10-point tiebreak in the final set, but that proved to be the only Longhorn singles victory on the day. Texas won four of six first sets, but Arizona State rebounded in three of those matches to take the subsequent second and third sets. The Longhorns return to the courts on Saturday, Jan. 28 in their 2006 home opener against No. 6 Northwestern. The match is set for 11 a.m. CST at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. Admission is free for all UT regular season home matches. No. 26 Arizona State 6, No. 3 Texas 1 Singles
