Women's Tennis opens season with No. 11 national ranking
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas women's tennis team will open its dual-match season near the top of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Team Rankings as announced by the ITA on Tuesday, Jan. 11. The women enter the 2005 season ranked No. 11 nationally. Texas also has several players in the national individual standings. Junior Kendra Strohm (Tucson, Ariz.) and sophomore Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia) are ranked No. 59 and No. 68, respectively, in singles. Strohm posted a 7-5 record in fall tournament play, which included an appearance in the finals of the ITA Southwest Regional. Dizdar's fall season was highlighted by appearances in the quarterfinal rounds of the Baylor Invitational and Desert Fall Collegiate, and a 6-6 tournament record in singles. In doubles action, the tandem of Strohm and junior Katie Ruckert (Vienna, Va.) are ranked No. 32 nationally. The duo amassed a 3-2 record this fall and recorded strong performances in the ITA All-American and Southwest Regional Championships. The UT women will open their spring season against Tulane in New Orleans on Saturday, Jan. 29.
