Women's Tennis opens 2007 season with No. 20 national ranking

AUSTIN, Texas -- Under second-year head coach Patty Fendick-McCain, Texas opens the 2007 season ranked No. 20 in the Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The Longhorns, who finished the 2006 season ranked 19th by the ITA, return four letterwinners from the 2006 squad that totaled an 18-12 record and reached the NCAA round of 32. Senior Petra Dizdar (Split, Croatia), a three-time All-Big 12 standout, returns for her final campaign after compiling a 20-18 overall singles mark, including a 7-3 conference record, a season ago.

Junior Courtney Zauft (San Antonio, Texas) tallied a 19-15 overall singles record and a 7-3 Big 12 singles record while collecting All-Big 12 doubles honors with former Longhorn Mia Marovic last season.

Freshman Sarah Lancaster (San Antonio, Texas) makes her ITA singles rankings debut at No. 70 on the strength of two big fall victories. Lancaster knocked off USC's then-No. 23 Dianne Matias at the Desert Classic and Texas A&M's Anna Blagodarova at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships.

Texas resumes the 2006-07 season on Thursday, Jan. 11 at the National College Tennis Classic in Indian Wells, Calif. The Longhorns kick off dual-match play on Friday, Jan. 26 at Iowa State.
