AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas has earned a No. 16 rank in the preseason poll released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

Under fourth-year head coach Patty Fendick-McCain, the Longhorns return five singles starters from the 2008 squad that reached the NCAA round of 16, finished with a 20-7 overall record and totaled a 10-1 mark in conference play. Junior Vanja Corovic ranks 60th in the ITA preseason singles rankings, and freshman Krista Damico ranks 116th. Krista is the sister of Kellen Damico, a sophomore on the Texas men's tennis team.

Corovic and senior Marija Milic rank ninth in the ITA preseason doubles rankings. Corovic and Milic enjoyed a stellar 2008 campaign at the first doubles slot in dual-match play and reached the doubles round of 16 at the 2008 NCAA Championships.

The Longhorns open dual-match play on Saturday, Jan. 24 when they host Rice at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
