Ellis advances in consolation bracket at ITA National Intercollegiate Indoors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Texas freshman Aeriel Ellis advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles consolation bracket Friday at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships to cap a productive day for the Longhorns on opposite sides of the country. Ellis (Hayward, Calif.) knocked off North Carolina's Sanaz Marand in the round of 16 in the singles consolation bracket, 6-3, 6-4. Ellis is set to play Florida State's Noemie Scharle in Saturday's consolation quarterfinals. Five Longhorns added wins in the main singles draw Friday at the Duals in the Desert in Palm Springs, Calif. Senior Vanja Corovic registered a 6-2, 6-2 win over UCLA's Pamela Montez, and UT junior Maggie Mello added a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over USC's Sarah Fansler. UT sophomore Krista Damico rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over UCLA's Nina Pantic, and senior Sarah Lancaster came from behind for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Northwestern's Lauren Lui.
