Ellis advances to semifinals at ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships

Nov. 5, 2010

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Texas sophomore Aeriel Ellis avenged a loss from last month in the round of 16 before rallying for a three-set win in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals Friday at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Ellis opened the day with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Notre Dame's third-seeded Kristy Frilling, who eliminated Ellis from the main singles draw last month at the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles.

Ellis returned later in the day to rally for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Stanford's Kristie Ahn in the quarterfinals to secure a berth in Saturday's semifinals. Ellis will take on either Washington's sixth-seeded Denise Dy or California's second-seeded Jana Juricova on Saturday.

POST-MATCH COMMENTS
Texas assistant coach Darija Klaic
“Aeriel has been playing at a very high level all week.  She has been mentally tough and ready to make big plays and go for big shots in big situations.  Aeriel kept working through the rough spots, and her hard work paid off in getting back from a set and 4-2 down tonight in the quarterfinals.  She got down 3-1 in the third set and dug deep again to make the necessary adjustments.”
