Ellis upends seeded opponent at ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Texas junior All-American Aeriel Ellis rallied from one set down to upset one of the top-eight seeds Thursday evening on day one of the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The unseeded Ellis dropped the first set to Duke’s Beatrice Capra, 6-3 but took the next two sets, 6-4, 6-2 to claim the opening-round victory over Capra, who held a 5-8 seed in the singles draw. Ellis, who reached the semifinals of this event last season, will meet Miami’s Anna Bartenstein in Friday’s round of 16 at 12:30 p.m. Central.
