Women's Tennis earns four quarterfinal berths at ITA Texas Regional Championships

WACO, Texas -- Texas earned four singles and doubles quarterfinals berths on day three of the ITA Texas Regional Championships Sunday at the Baylor Tennis Center. Sophomore Aeriel Ellis, the top seed and defending champion in the singles draw, opened the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Houston's Giorgia Pozzan before posting a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over Texas Tech's Samantha Adams in the round of 16. Ellis will take on a familiar foe in UT junior Krista Damico in Monday's quarterfinals. Damico notched a 6-3, 6-2 win over Texas State's Jessica Kahts in the round of 32 before dispatching Lamar's Mariaryeni Gutierrez by a 6-1, 6-3 count in the round of 16. Ellis and Damico teamed up to post an 8-5 win in the doubles round of 16 over TCU's Maria Babanova and Idunn Hertzberg. Ellis and Damico will take on Texas Tech's Adams and Kelsy Garland in the quarterfinals. Texas also advanced the duo of Caroline Larsson and Maggie Mello to the doubles quarterfinals. Larsson and Mello posted a 9-7 win over Lamar's Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzi and will take on Texas Tech's Nikki Sanders and Carolina Starck in Monday's quarterfinals.
