Women's Tennis advances six in singles draw at ITA Texas Regionals

FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas earned six berths in the round of 32 in the main singles draw Friday on day one of the ITA Texas Regional Championships at TCU's Friedman Tennis Center. Freshman Alex Martin started her day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Houston's Maja Kaximieruk in the round of 128 before posting a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over SMU's Heather Steinbauer in the round of 64. Martin will take on Texas Tech's Caroline Starck in the round of 32 on Saturday at 11 a.m. Central. Freshman Noel Scott notched a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Houston's Giorgia Pozzan in the round of 64. Scott will take on North Texas' Valentina Starkova in Saturday's round of 32. Senior Krista Damico registered a 6-1, 6-4 win over SMU's Shahzoda Hatamova in the round of 64. She will take on Texas Tech's Kenna Kilgo on Saturday. Texas sophomore Elizabeth Begley posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over TCU's Kelsey Sundaram in the round of 64 and will meet Rice's Natalie Beazant in the round of 32. Sophomore Cierra Gaytan-Leach delivered a 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 win over UT-Arlington's Nikola Matovicova and set up a round-of-32 matchup with Texas Tech's Nikki Sanders. Junior All-American Aeriel Ellis, who won the event as a freshman, posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rice's Kim Anicete. Ellis will meet Texas Tech's Sandra Dynka on Saturday.
