Ellis eliminated from ITA All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Texas junior Aeriel Ellis suffered a straight-sets defeat and was eliminated from the main singles draw Friday at the ITA All-American Championships. Additionally, the Longhorns quartet of Elizabeth Begley, Juliana Gajic, Alex Martin and Annat Rabinovich went undefeated in 10 matches Friday at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
Ellis, a winner in Thursday's round of 32 at the ITA All-American Championships, suffered a 6-3, 7-5 defeat to Arizona State's Jacqueline Cako in Friday's round of 16. Ellis was competing in her seventh consecutive national championship event.
UT's Begley defeated Tulane's Caroline Thornton and Rice's Katie Gater to advance to the semifinals of the blue singles bracket at the Rice Invitational. Gajic knocked off Penn State's Chelsea Utting and DePaul's Kelsey Lawson to join Begley in the blue singles semifinals.
Texas' Martin defeated Penn State's Fernanda Perrotta and DePaul's Rebeca Mitrea to reach the semifinals of the gray singles bracket, where she will be joined by her UT classmate, Rabinovich, who defeated DePaul's Cali Gustafson and Rice's Leah Fried. Notably, Rabinovich outlasted Fried in a second-set tiebreaker, 20-18.
ITA All-American Championships
