Women's Tennis eliminated from pre-qualifying doubles draw at ITA All-American Championships

LOS ANGELES – Two Texas doubles tandems were victorious in their second-round matches but were eliminated in following next round of the pre-qualifying doubles draw Sunday on day two of the ITA All-American Championships. UT senior Krista Damico and junior Aeriel Ellis opened the day with an 8-4 win over Eastern Michigan’s Nino Mebuke and Miriam Westerink in the pre-qualifying round of 16. The Texas duo was eliminated by William and Mary’s Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans by an 8-1 count in the quarterfinals. Texas sophomore Cierra Gaytan-Leach and freshman Noel Scott opened with an 8-3 win over Memphis’ Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray in the round of 16. Clemson’s Monika Kochanova and Klara Vsykocilova dealt the Texas tandem an 8-1 defeat in the quarterfinals. Ellis is set to begin play in the ITA All-American Championships’ main singles draw on Thursday, Oct. 6 in Los Angeles. ITA All-American Championships
