Damico advances to main draw semifinals at UNLV Fall Invitational

LAS VEGAS -- Texas junior Krista Damico notched two wins to advance to the semifinals in the main singles draw Friday on day one of the UNLV Fall Invitational.
Damico opened the day with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Illinois State's Arianne Maack and followed with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Illinois' Rachel White. Damico will take on UNLV's Lucia Batta in Saturday's main draw semifinals.
Senior Amanda Craddock knocked off Northern Arizona's Aimee Oki in the flight two quarterfinals and will take on UNLV's Nives Pavlovic in Saturday's semifinals. UT junior Maya Zein-El-Abdin registered a 6-2, 6-4 win over Illinois' Annie McCarthy, and freshman Cierra Gaytan-Leach tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win over Northern Arizona's Nicole Perez. Zein-El-Abdin will take on Gaytan-Leach in the flight two semifinals.
Texas junior Julia Wiegand registered a 6-2, 6-1 win over Northern Arizona's Alice Walker in the flight three quarters and will meet UNLV's Adrienn Hidvegi in Saturday's semifinals.
Begley and sophomore Aeriel Ellis advanced to the semifinals in the main doubles draw, as did the team of senior Maggie Mello and Zein-El-Abdin along with the duo of senior Caroline Larsson and Craddock in flight two.
The UNLV Fall Invitational continues Saturday at noon Central in Las Vegas.
