AUSTIN, Texas – Texas junior Elizabeth Begley and junior Annat Rabinovich each won two matches and reached the finals of their respective singles draws Saturday on day two of the Longhorn Invitational at UT’s Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
Competing in the “Orange” singles draw, Begley earned her semifinals berth early in the day by defeating Houston’s Elena Kordolaimi, 6-4, 6-1. In the semifinals, Begley dropped the first set to North Texas’ Keseniya Bardabush, 6-3. Begley trailed 4-0 in the next set before claiming the next five games for a 5-4 lead. Bardabush and Begley held serve the rest of the way as the set progressed to a tiebreaker, where Begley prevailed, 7-4.
Begley trailed Bardabush 2-1 in the final set before holding serve and breaking for a 3-2 lead. Begley held serve, broke Bardabush and held serve once more to close out the match, 6-2 and preserve her spot in the “Orange” bracket finals. Begley will meet SMU’s Aleksandra Malyarchikova in Sunday’s finals at 10:30 a.m.
Rabinovich advanced to the semifinals of the “Black” singles flight with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tulane’s Emma Helisten. She punched her ticket to Sunday’s finals with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over LSU’s Ella Taylor. Rabinovich will meet Tulane’s Ipek Birol in the finals of the “Black” singles bracket on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
