Scott falls in singles finals at Duke Invitational

Sept. 16, 2012

CARY, N.C. – Texas sophomore Noel Scott suffered a straight-set defeat in the finals of her singles flight Sunday as play concluded at the Duke Invitational.

Hanna Mar of Duke dealt Scott a 6-1, 6-1 defeat in the finals of the “White” singles draw. Scott scored one singles win on Friday and two more on Saturday to earn a spot in Sunday’s finals.

"This was a great tournament to start off the season because of the high quality of competition," said UT assistant coach Darija Klaic.  "We are bringing home a second place in singles for Noel Scott and a few other ranked wins in both singles and doubles. Initially, the feeling was that we were hitting the ball well, but to get to the place where we are playing the game well, we needed to make some adjustments. It was exciting to watch the progress the girls made from day one through day two. They were committed to improving, and they competed hard all the way to the end."

Texas resumes fall tournament play next weekend when it hosts the Longhorn Invitational beginning Sept. 21 at UT’s Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
