No. 3 Baylor defeats Women's Tennis, 6-1

WACO, Texas - Texas junior Sarah Lancaster posted her fifth consecutive win and improved to 9-0 in conference play with a win at sixth singles, but No. 3 Baylor (16-4, 7-0 Big 12) posted a 6-1 victory over the 31st-ranked Longhorns (12-6, 8-1 Big 12) Saturday afternoon at the Baylor Tennis Center. Baylor took the first two decisions in the doubles session to claim the doubles point. Texas managed a victory at the third position, where sophomore Maggie Mello and freshman Krista Damico posted an 8-5 win over the Bears' Karolina Filipiak and Kasia Siwosz. Baylor pushed its lead to 2-0 at fourth singles, where Jelena Stanivuk tallied a 6-2, 6-0 win over UT's Mello. The Bears extended the cushion to 3-0 at second singles, where Lenka Broosova defeated Texas sophomore Caroline Larsson by a 6-0, 6-4 count. Lancaster put the Longhorns on the board at sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over BU's Filipiak to improve to 16-2 in dual match play. Baylor went on to clinch the victory at third singles when Csilla Borsanyi defeated Damico by a 6-3, 6-0 count. BU's Siwosz added a 6-2, 7-5 win over UT junior Stephanie Davison at fifth singles to push the lead to 5-1. After dropping the first set at first singles to Baylor's Taylor Ormond, Texas junior Vanja Corovic rallied to take the second set, 6-4. Ormond prevailed in the ensuing super-tiebreaker, 10-5, to close out the match. Texas resumes play on Saturday, April 18 at Kansas.
