Women's Tennis overpowers Texas Tech, 7-0

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas (7-3, 3-0 Big 12) swept the doubles session and captured all six singles matches en route to a 7-0 victory over Texas Tech Friday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
UT opened the match by sweeping the doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The Horns led off with a win at the second slot, where junior Amanda Craddock and sophomore Krista Damico posted an 8-2 win over Tech's Elizabeth Ullathorne and Caroline Starck. Texas clinched the doubles point at the first slot, where freshman Aeriel Ellis and senior Vanja Corovic dealt Kelsy Garland and Natalie Leitch an 8-5 defeat. UT wrapped up the session at third doubles, as senior Sarah Lancaster and junior Caroline Larsson defeated Sandra Dynka and Stephanie Peana by an 8-5 margin.
Texas would put away the Red Raiders with wins at the sixth, second and fourth singles positions. Junior Maggie Mello staked Texas to a 2-0 lead after posting a 6-2, 7-5 win over Peana at sixth singles. Corovic stretched the Horns' lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Leitch at second singles. The clincher came from Larsson at fourth singles, where she defeated Garland by a 6-1, 6-4 margin.
UT's Ellis defeated Tech's Dynka by a 6-2, 6-4 count at the first slot, and Lancaster finished off Starck at fifth singles by a 7-5, 6-3 count. Texas finished off the win at third singles, where Damico rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Ullathorne.
Texas resumes play on Sunday, March 28 when it hosts No. 7 Baylor at noon.
