Women's Tennis overpowers Kansas, 7-0

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas (6-3, 2-0 Big 12) secured the doubles point and swept the six singles matches on its way to a 7-0 win over Kansas (8-6, 0-2 Big 12) Sunday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Longhorns opened the doubles session with a win at third doubles, as senior Sarah Lancaster and junior Caroline Larsson dealt Victoria Khanevskaya and Alie Dzuba an 8-3 defeat. The Jayhawks responded with a win at first doubles, but UT finished off the doubles session with a win at the second slot, as senior Vanja Corovic and freshman Aeriel Ellis defeated Kuni Dorn and Sara Lazarevic by an 8-6 count. Texas made short work of Kansas in the singles session and won each match in straight sets. Corovic notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lazarevic at second singles, and Lancaster added a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dzuba at the sixth slot. Ellis clinched the victory for the Horns at first singles, where she dealt Katarina Morozova a 6-3 6-4 defeat. Larsson followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Erin Wilbert at fourth singles, and UT junior Maggie Mello registered a 6-3, 7-5 win over Khanevskaya at the fifth slot. Sophomore Krista Damico tacked on the final point with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Dorn at third singles. Texas continues conference play on Friday, March 26 when it hosts Texas Tech at 1 p.m. Central.
