Women's Tennis holds off Oklahoma, 5-2

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas dropped the doubles session but collected five singles victories en route to a 5-2 win over visiting Oklahoma Friday afternoon at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. UT (7-4, 3-0 Big 12) picked up a win at first doubles from UT junior Vanja Corovic and senior Marija Milic, but the Sooners (6-7, 0-3 Big 12) took the matches at second and third doubles to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Texas sophomore Amanda Craddock evened the match at one with a 6-2, 6-0 win over OU's Peta Maree Lancaster at fifth singles. The Sooners picked up a point and regained the lead after UT's Vanja Corovic retired at first singles, but UT freshman Krista Damico evened the tally once more with a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles over Kristina Radan. Texas junior Sarah Lancaster gave the Longhorns the lead for good at sixth singles, where she dealt OU's Tara Eckel a 6-2, 6-4 defeat. UT sophomore Maggie Mello clinched the victory for Texas with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Marie-Pier Huet at the fourth slot. UT sophomore Caroline Larsson tallied the final point with a third-set tiebreak win over Maris Kalashnikova at second singles. Texas completes its weekend home stand on Saturday when it hosts Oklahoma State at noon.
