No. 8 Women's Tennis tops Missouri, 5-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 8 Texas (9-4, 2-0 Big 12) swept the doubles session and won four of six matches on its way to a 5-2 victory over host Missouri (5-6, 0-2 Big 12) Sunday afternoon at MU’s Green Tennis Center. Texas opened the doubles session with a pair of decisive victories at the second and third positions to secure the doubles point. UT’s Cierra Gaytan-Leach and Krista Damico opened with an 8-1 win over Rachel Stuhlmann and Annemijn Koenen at the second slot, and Texas’ Elizabeth Begley and Juliana Gajic added an 8-3 win at third doubles over MU’s Alex Clark and Ashleigh Chiaf. Texas wrapped up the doubles session at the first slot, where the 23rd-ranked duo of Lina Padegimaite and Noel Scott edged MU’s Nina Pantic and Jamie Mera, 8-7. Texas ran off four consecutive victories to take a 5-0 lead and effectively put the match away. Gaytan-Leach claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Maria Christensen at third singles, and Begley notched a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Clark at fifth singles. Texas clinched the match at first singles, where the 75th-ranked Damico posted a 7-6, 6-2 win over Nina Pantic. Padegimaite tacked on to the Texas lead after dealing MU’s Mera a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) defeat at fourth singles. Missouri registered a pair of third-set supertiebreaker victories to close out the match. Texas ventures out of conference on Wednesday, March 21 when it hosts Illinois at UT’s Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
