Women's Tennis notches five wins on day one of Miami Spring Invite

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Four singles victories - including two over ranked opponents - and an additional doubles win highlighted day one for the Longhorns Friday at the Miami Spring Invite.Senior two-time All-American Aeriel Ellis outlasted Texas A&M's 45 th-ranked Cristina Stancu by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 count. Playing her first collegiate match, UT freshman Breaunna Addison scored a decisive 6-0, 6-4 win over the Aggies' Nazari Urbina, who has played in the top half of Texas A&M's singles lineup her previous three seasons. Junior Elizabeth Begley, fresh off of a 34-win sophomore campaign, added a 7-5, 6- 4 win over A&M's 82nd-ranked Sun Wen. First-semester freshman Lana Groenvynck also was victorious in her first collegiate match, as she edged A&M's Maria Paula Deheza, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2. Addison and Scott teamed up for an 8-2 win over Miami's Melissa Bolivar and Clementina Riobueno. "This was a good first day for us," UT head coach Patty Fendick-McCain said. "We won some great matches, and even the matches we lost were closely contested. We competed well, but we know we can play better, too." Texas continues competition at the Miami Spring Invite on Saturday.
