Women's Swimming and Diving's Hersey, Livingston earn Big 12 honors

IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference selected Texas freshman swimmer Kathleen Hersey and UT senior diver Jessica Livingston as the league's Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week after the duo turned in outstanding performances at the recent Texas Invitational.

Hersey (Roswell, Ga.) set five new individual school records and assisted on two new relay school records, while also setting three individual Big 12 records and assisting on one Big 12 relay record at the Texas Invitational. Hersey led off UT's 400-yard medley relay with a 53.37-second split on the opening backstroke leg to set a new school record in the 100 backstroke. Hersey clocked 51.40 to set a new school mark in the 100 butterfly and finished the 200 IM in 1:56.17 for another school mark.

Hersey clocked 4:03.88 in the 400 IM for another school record and added a Big 12 record in the 200 backstroke in 1:53.37. She set new Big 12 and school records in the 200 butterfly in 1:53.38. Hersey anchored UT's 400 freestyle relay that set new Big 12 and school records and swam the second leg of the school record-setting 800 freestyle relay.

Livingston (The Woodlands, Texas) captured the 18-diver platform event and took third in the one-meter and three-meter springboard events at the Texas Invitational. Livingston was victorious in the platform event with 320.20 points. She took third in the three-meter event with 313.05 points and third in the one-meter event with 300.90 points.

Hersey, Livingston and the Longhorns return to action on Jan. 8, 2009 at Auburn.
