Women's Swimming and Diving lands six finals berths in day two prelims at Texas Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas -- Highlighted by senior Elizabeth Tinnon's NCAA automatic-qualifying swim in the 100-yard breaststroke, Texas collected six finals berths during the day two preliminary-round session of the Texas Invitational Friday morning at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Tinnon (Bowling Green, Ky.), who had already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, took first in the 100 breaststroke preliminary round in 1:00.30. Joining Tinnon in Friday evening's final will be senior Leah Avilla (Livermore, Calif.), who took fourth in a NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 1:02.20. Sophomore Alexi Spann (Austin, Texas) took seventh in the preliminary in 1:02.63 and also advanced to the finals. Sophomore Alison Soelter (Ulysses, Kan.) placed seventh in the 400 individual medley, clocking a NCAA "B" cut time of 4:20.47 to collect a spot in the finals. Friday's one-meter diving preliminaries begin at 12:30 p.m. Central with the finals to be contested beginning at 5:15 p.m. The swimming finals are slated for a 6 p.m. start.
