Women's Swimming and Diving chasing Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. -- The seventh-ranked University of Texas women's swimming and diving team sits behind host No. 4-ranked Stanford, 53-114, after the first day of dual competition on Friday, Oct. 28 at the Avery Aquatic Center.

Stanford (1-0) set the tone against UT (1-0-1) early by breaking the pool record in the meet-opening 200 free relay and never looked back after a team of Madeline Rovira, Desiree Stahley, Erica Liu and Brooke Bishop covered the race in an NCAA "B" time of 1:33.55. The Cardinal wound up winning all eight of the opening day swimming events.

The Longhorns did sweep the top two spots of the 3-meter diving competition. Freshman Kathryn Kelly took first place with a total score of 295.42 and fellow rookie Kara-Jayne Salamone took second with a score of 273.15.

The Texas women will resume dual-meet competition against Stanford at 9 a.m. (CST) on Saturday, Oct. 29.
