Cullinan takes fourth on platform at FINA Junior Diving World Championships
Sept. 20, 2008
AACHEN, Germany -- University of Texas freshman diver Shelby Cullinan vaulted from 10th place after the preliminary round to a fourth-place showing in the platform diving finals Saturday at the 2008 FINA Junior Diving World Championships. Cullinan (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) stood in 12th place after the preliminary round with 369.75 points, but she worked her way up the standings in the finals, landing the top American finish with 398.20 points to take fourth place. China's Ni Chen won the event with 484.70 points. Notably, Cullinan arrived in Germany less than two days in advance of the meet and had little time to prepare for her first international meet on site. Cullinan and the Longhorns open the 2008-09 season on Oct. 18 at California.
