Sogar, Hersey named to 2012-13 USA Swimming Women's National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Swimming has announced the selections of Texas senior Laura Sogar and former Longhorn Kathleen Hersey to the 2012-13 USA Swimming Women’s National Team. Athletes who posted the top-six fastest times from the combined results of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, the London Olympics and the 2012 U.S. Open earned selections to the team. A fourth-place finisher in the 200-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic Trials, Sogar earned her spot on the National Team after clocking a personal best of 2 minutes, 25.15 seconds in the 200m breaststroke at the 2012 U.S. Open. Sogar earned All-America honors in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in each of her previous three seasons as a Longhorn. A two-time U.S. Olympian, Hersey earned her spot on the 2012-13 National Team by clocking a personal best of 2:05.78 in the 200m butterfly for fourth place at the London Olympics. Hersey’s mark of 58.16 in the 100m butterfly also qualified her for placement on the 2012-13 National Team. Hersey earned 11 All-America honors in her two seasons as a Longhorn (2009-10).
