Yarrison captures three-meter synchro title at USA Diving Championships

INDIANAPOLIS and IRVINE, Calif. -- University of Texas junior Mary Yarrison (Springfield, Va.) became the second current Longhorn diver to win a national title in as many days, as she captured the three-meter synchronized diving title Saturday at the Kaiser Permanente USA Diving National Championships in Indianapolis.

Yarrison teamed with Abby Johnston to post a winning score of 277.98 to claim the three-meter synchro national title. Yarrison became the second current Longhorn to win a national title this weekend, as UT junior Jessica Livingston (Houston, Texas) claimed the platform event on Friday evening. Notably, the team of Kelci Bryant and Ariel Rittenhouse, who finished second to Yarrison and Johnston, won silver last month in the same event at the FINA Diving World Cup in Changshu, China. Yarrison added a fifth-place finish in the individual three-meter event Saturday with a score of 273.90. Livingston and Yarrison were named to the 2006 USA National Team by way of their performances at the USA Diving National Championships.

UT sophomore Alexandra Spann (Austin, Texas) reached the "B" finals of the 200-meter breaststroke at the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif., where she placed third in 2:32.09. Spann touched the wall in 2:33.10 for 11th place in the preliminary round.
