Kelly, Yarrison reach one-meter finals at NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Texas junior diver Kathryn Kelly and senior diver Mary Yarrison reached the one-meter diving finals with fourth- and sixth-place finishes during the preliminary round Thursday on day one of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Kelly (Longwood, Fla.) dug an early hole with a score of 31.05 in her first dive, but she rebounded nicely with scores of 49 and above in her five remaining dives to end the prelims in fourth place with 293.75 points. Yarrison (Springfield, Va.) took sixth in the prelims with a total of 291.45.
The duo will compete for a national title this evening, with the swimming finals getting underway at 7 p.m. Eastern. The one-meter diving finals will be held after the 50 freestyle.
