Hersey reaches 200 individual medley finals at NCAA Championships
March 18, 2010 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Texas sophomore Kathleen Hersey claimed the fourth seed in tonight's 200 individual medley finals during the day one preliminary session at the 2010 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Hersey, the 2009 NCAA runner-up in the 200 IM, landed the fourth seed in 1:55.76. Freshman Laura Sogar placed 29th overall in 1:59.77, and freshman Spindrift Beck took 50th in 2:01.29. Texas added a pair of consolation finals berths in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay. UT took 13th in the 200 freestyle relay preliminary round, as sophomore Karlee Bispo, freshman Bethany Adams, junior Brie Powers and sophomore Katie Riefenstahl finished in 1:30.09. Texas placed 10th in the 400 medley relay, where freshman Jessica Guro, Sogar, Hersey and Bispo finished in 3:34.40. Bispo led the Texas contingent in the 50 freestyle, where she took 22nd in 22.55. Freshman Kelsey Amundsen took 44th in 23.02, and Adams placed 45th in 23.03. Powers placed 48th in 23.05. The one-meter diving prelims are in progress.
