No. 3 Women's Swimming and Diving qualifies 11 for NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas women's swimming and diving team has qualified 11 swimmers for the 2010 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships slated for March 18-20 at Purdue University. Sophomore Kathleen Hersey leads the way with top-five national seeds in three events. The five-time All-American is seeded fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.92), fifth in the 100 butterfly (52.08) and third in the 200 butterfly (1:53.68). Sophomore Leah Gingrich is seeded 11th in the 500 freestyle (4:40.67), 12th in the 400 individual medley (4:09.53) and ninth in the 200 butterfly (1:55.41). Sophomore Karlee Bispo holds the 15th seed in the 50 freestyle (22.36), the eighth seed in the 200 freestyle (1:44.99) and the seventh seed (48.24) in the 100 freestyle. Senior Alexi Spann qualified 11th in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.35), while freshman Laura Sogar qualified 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.52) and 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.31). Sophomore Katie Riefenstahl earned the 12th seed in the 200 backstroke (1:54.42) and the 24th seed in the 100 backstroke (53.51), while freshman Jessica Guro qualified 25th in the 100 backstroke (53.53). Freshman Spindrift Beck qualified 23rd in the 200 breaststroke (2:11.68). Junior Brie Powers and freshman Bethany Adams qualified as members of UT's 10th-seeded 200 freestyle relay. Adams also qualified as a member of UT's 10th-seeded 200 medley relay. Freshman Kelsey Amundsen qualified as a member of Texas' eighth-seeded 400 freestyle relay.
The Texas diving contingent will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships next week (March 12-14) at the NCAA Zone "D" Diving Meet in College Station. 2010 NCAA Championships Qualifiers |
