Women's Swimming and Diving lands six on Academic All-Big 12 Team
Feb. 24, 2009 IRVING, Texas -- Led by three-time, first-team honorees Hee-Jin Chang and Kathryn Kelly, the third-ranked University of Texas women's swimming and diving team landed six student-athletes on the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Swimming and Diving Team. Seniors Kathryn Kelly and Hee-Jin Chang earned first-team selections in each of their three years of eligibility for those selections. Notably, Kelly and sophomore Adrienne Woods, another first-team selection, carried perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during their last two semesters completed. Senior Rebecca Orr earned her second straight first-team selection, and junior Alexi Spann earned her first career first-team selection. Sophomore Brie Powers earned a second-team selection to the Academic All-Big 12 Team. Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the Academic All-Big 12 women's swimming and diving team had 66 first-team recipients and 17 student-athletes on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team features student-athletes maintaining a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or during the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
