No. 3 Women's Swimming and Diving lands 10 on Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas -- Led by a pair of two-time first-team selections in senior Alexi Spann and junior Adrienne Woods, the third-ranked Texas women's swimming and diving team landed 10 student-athletes on the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Women's Swimming and Diving Team.

Joining Spann and Woods on the first team were sophomores Karlee Bispo, Lauren Caldwell, Kierstin Thornhill, Becca Tomlin, Kathleen Hersey and Katie Riefenstahl.  Seniors Susana Escobar and Traci Van Matre earned second-team selections. 

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the women's swimming and diving Academic All-Big 12 squad consisted of 65 first-team members and 15 second-team selections. First team honorees consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and second-team members maintained a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.


 

 

Texas begins competition Wednesday at the 2010 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in College Station.
