Women's Swimming & Diving places 17 on Big 12 All-Academic team

AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Longhorns had 17 athletes selected to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Team league officials announced Tuesday.

Texas tied Texas A&M for the most selections and had 14 of the 17 members receiving first team honors.

Bethany Adams (Advertising), Spin Beck (Plan II Honors), Karlee Bispo (Exercise Science), Shelby Cullinan (Human Relations), Sarah Gandy (Chemistry- Pre-Med), Jessica Guro (Corporate Communications), Samantha Holland (Exercise Science), Ellen Lobb (Public Relations), Leah Reinhardt (Advertising), Katie Riefenstahl (Engineering route to Business), Kierstin Thornhill (Psychology), Marylyn Toledo (Physical Culture and Sport), Becca Tomlin (Advertising), Catherine Wagner (Finance) were tabbed Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

Kelsey Amundsen (Human Relations), Lauren Ross (Psychology), Laura Sogar (Economics) were selected to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.


 

 

Among those honored, freshman Sarah Gandy was represented with a 4.00 GPA.

Karlee Bispo, Katie Riefenstahl, Kierstin Thornhill and Marylyn Toledo were all named to their third consecutive first team nod, while Shelby Cullinan, Jessica Guro and Samantha Holland received their second straight first team recognition. Kelsey Amundsen and Laura Sogar picked up their second Academic All-Big 12 honors after being named to the first team in 2011.

The Academic All-Big 12 Swimming & Diving Team includes 80 (22 men, 58 women) first team honorees and 20 (nine men, 11 women) second team members.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
