Into the Blue with Sarah Wanezek: February 16
Sarah Wanezek has been the Big 12's Swimmer of the Year the last two seasons and will provide fans with insight into Longhorns' swimming and diving through her diary, "Into the Blue." Wanezek is an 11-time NCAA All-American and holds UT records in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard medley relay. Throughout the season, Sarah will check-in periodically with TexasSports.com as the Longhorns make their run at a seventh-straight Big 12 Conference Championship and prepare for the 2005 NCAA Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. Dear Longhorn Fans, Last Friday night our team had the opportunity to swim against ninth-ranked Texas A&M. Although the very confident and determined Aggies put up a fight, we were not about to leave College Station without a win under our belt. We began the meet with a bang, winning the much anticipated race in the 200 medley relay. Texas A&M, which is ranked second in the country to only the Longhorns in this event, were ready to give us a run in this relay. But we were able to stay strong and touch them out by a small margin. The Longhorns then went on to sweep just about every event at the meet--with the exception of a few close races the Aggies snuck in to win. With such a solid win over Texas A&M, our confidence and spirits are high going into the Big 12 Conference meet taking place in College Station, February 23-26. Having seen the great turnout of Aggie fans at their home pool, we are really going to need everyone's support and cheers at the meet. We appreciate all of you who have stayed with us and believed is us thus far this year. The fun is just about to begin! Hook 'em! ~Sarah
