WHAT: No. 16 Texas resumes competition as it welcomes No. 4 Texas A&M on Senior Day for the State Farm Lone Star Showdown. WHERE: Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center - Austin, Texas WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 2 - 1 p.m. Central (Senior Day ceremonies for Delia Huang, Macie Garrett, Lindsay Voyles and Mary Yarrison will be held at 12:45 p.m.) LAST TIME OUT: The Longhorns dropped a 134-120 decision to No. 5 Arizona on Saturday, Jan. 19. LAST MEETINGS WITH TEXAS A&M: In the teams' most recent dual meet, the Aggies dealt the Longhorns a 175-124 defeat on Nov. 3, 2006 in College Station.Texas A&M and Texas staged tight battles in their most recent postseason meetings.The Aggies edged the Longhorns by one point (931-930) at the 2007 Big 12 Championship in College Station.Texas took sixth at the 2007 NCAA Championship with 220 points, and Texas A&M placed eighth with 198 points. STATE FARM LONE STAR SHOWDOWN: Heading into Wednesday evening's men's basketball game featuring the two schools, Texas A&M leads the 2007-08 State Farm Lone Star Showdown by a 3-2 count.The winning team at this weekend's meet gets one point for its school in the SFLSS standings. ABOUT TEXAS: Texas returns six All-Americans from the 2007 squad that placed sixth at the NCAA Championships. Leading the way is junior Hee-Jin Chang, who ranks eighth in the nation in the 50 freestyle (22.62).Diving coach Matt Scoggin returns All-America divers Mary Yarrison and Kathryn Kelly. Yarrison placed seventh in the three-meter event and ninth in the one-meter event at the 2007 NCAA Championship, and Kelly placed eighth in the one-meter event.Yarrison also claimed the one-meter event at the 2007 USA Spring National Championships. BIG 12 HONORS ESCOBAR, KELLY: Texas sophomore swimmer Susana Escobar and junior diver Kathryn Kelly were selected as the Big 12 Conference's Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week on Jan. 23 after turning in outstanding performances in recent meets against Auburn, Georgia and Arizona. Escobar registered three victories on Jan. 19 at No. 5 Arizona, taking the 1000 freestyle, the 500 freestyle and the 400 individual medley.Escobar tallied NCAA provisional-qualifying marks in the 400 IM and the 500 freestyle against No. 1 Auburn on Jan. 10 and added a NCAA provisional-qualifying mark in the 1,650 freestyle against No. 2 Georgia on Jan. 11. Kelly earned her second career selection as the Big 12's Women's Diver of the Week after sweeping the one- and three-meter events against Auburn and Georgia (318.23/339.15).Kelly also took second in the one-meter event at Arizona, where she was edged by teammate Mary Yarrison.
