Women's Swimming and Diving travels to No. 9 Arizona Saturday

Jan. 27, 2012

AUSTIN, Texas—No. 4 Women’s Swimming and Diving is set to take on No. 9 Arizona in a dual meet this Saturday in Tucson.

The Longhorns hope to bounce back from their first dual meet loss of the season at No. 7 Auburn on Jan. 11. UT fell to the Tigers, 167-133, in a meet that was very close throughout. Texas held a lead after the first seven events, but the Tigers finished strongly in the final races to seize the lead.

At Auburn, in the 200-yard freestyle event, Texas placed first and second. Senior Karlee Bispo won the event with sophomore Samantha Tucker touching the wall second. In five meets this season, Bispo has yet to lose the 200-yard freestyle and currently holds the top time nationally in the event.

Arizona is led by strong senior talent, including Alyssa Anderson, who secured a first place finish in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events, as well as the 200-yard butterfly in their most recent meet, a loss to No. 3 Stanford. The Wildcats’ 400 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams have the fastest times of the season.

Last season when Texas met Arizona, UT prevailed 189-156. The meet featured a pair of wins from Bispo in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle events.

The meet will begin at 12 noon (CT) at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson.
