IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced Wednesday the selections of UT sophomore swimmer Gretchen Jaques as the league’s Women’s Swimmer of the Week and junior diver Maren Taylor as the league’s Women’s Diver of the Week.
Jaques registered strong performances in UT’s recent meet at Auburn (Jan. 10), where she defeated U.S. Olympian Micah Lawrence in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished just behind teammate Laura Sogar, UT’s record holder in the event.
The Californian also helped the Horns win the 200 freestyle relay with a 22.44 relay split. Jaques added a victory in the 100 freestyle at Georgia, where she defeated UGA All-American Megan Romano by one one-hundredth of a second. This marks Jaques’ first career Big 12 weekly honor.
Taylor continued her solid redshirt junior season with victories in the one-meter and three-meter events at Auburn and a one-meter victory at Georgia. The Arlington, Va., native picks up her sixth career Big 12 weekly award and her third this season.
Texas resumes its dual-meet season on Friday when it takes on Big 12 Conference foe TCU in Fort Worth.
