Two former Women's Swimming Longhorns reach evening session

AUSTIN, Texas -- A pair of former Texas women's swimmers advanced to the evening session on the first day of the USA Swimming Austin Grand Prix. Susana Escobar and Adrienne Woods each qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400 freestyle during the evening events, beating the required time of 4:19.39. Escobar had a 4:16.72 in the preliminary rounds to qualify for the consolation finals at night. She bettered her time, swimming a 4:15.77, to claim fourth place in her race. Adrienne Woods made the bonus final in both the 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle. She swam in the first heat of the night and clocked a 57.32 in the 100 free. The time was just off her 57.24 from the preliminary rounds which was also just shy of the Olympic Trials qualifying time of 57.19. In the 400 freestyle, she finished fifth in her heat with a time of 4:19.30. In the prelims she swam a 4:19.21. The action at the Lee & Joe Jamail Swimming Center will continue on Saturday with preliminary rounds starting at 9:30 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
