Women's Swimming and Diving preview: Georgia
Site: Austin, TX Parking advisory: On Saturday afternoon, the University of Texas women's and men's swimming and diving teams as well as the men's and women's basketball teams will all be hosting simultaneous events starting approximately at 11 a.m. in the Texas Swimming and Diving Center and at noon in the Erwin Center. Parking for the swimming events will be available for free on San Jacinto, on a first come first serve basis (please read all posted signage). Use of the Trinity parking garage and surface lot parking (Lots 99 & 70) on campus are available for $8.00 per car. Parking lot 80 will not be available for parking on either day during the men's and women's swimming and diving meets. Last Year's Meet: The University of Texas women's swimming and diving team competed against Georgia and dropped its first dual meet of the season, falling to the top-ranked Lady Bulldogs, 165-133. Hayley McGregory (Houston, Texas) swept both backstroke events, notching NCAA provisional qualifying times in each, while Elizabeth Tinnon (Bowling Green, Ky.) won both the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes with NCAA automatic qualifying times in each. Sarah Wanezek (Brookfield, Wis.) rounded out the individual event winners on the day for the Longhorns, capturing the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.89. The Texas women capped off competition with a win the in 200-yard freestyle relay, with Katie Robinson (Dillsboro, Ind.), McGregory, Jennifer Robbins (Atlanta, Ga.) and Michelle Molina (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) teaming to post a time of 1:35.52. Last Time Out: Led by Connie Brown and Elizabeth Wycliffe, the University of Texas women's swimming and diving team defeated USC, 158.5-141.5, in dual meet action to begin the second half of the season at the McDonald's Swim Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. Brown took firsts in both the 100 yard backstroke and 100 yard freestyle with times of 56.25 and 51.38, respectively. Wycliffe took first in the 200 yard back stroke (1:59.54) and second in both the 100 yard backstroke (56.41) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.16). UT diver Jessica Livingston took second in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 240.15, while Elizabeth Tinnon took second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.94. Katie Robinson took first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 55.60 and Hee-Jin Chang took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.63. Stephanie Anderson also performed well, finishing with a pair of second place finishes in the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:04.47) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:55.99). She also helped the women's 200 medley relay take first place with a time of 1:41.90.
