Longhorns take on No. 1 Georgia in top five matchup

AUSTIN, Texas – On Saturday No. 4 Texas will take on No. 1 Georgia in dual meet action at the Lee & Joe Jamail Swim Center in Austin, Texas. The Longhorns are undefeated this season and last won the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational Dec. 1-3 with 841.5 points. The Bulldogs hosted the Georgia Fall Invitational Dec. 2-4 and the Georgia Diving Invitational Jan. 3-5. Prior to the dual match, Texas will honor its five seniors for their final performance at home. The senior class consists of Karlee Bispo (Modesto, Calif.), Leah Gingrich (Enola, Pa.), Katie Riefenstahl (Blue Bell, Pa.), Kierstin Thornhill (Flower Mound, Texas) and Becca Tomlin (El Paso, Texas). This past week, the Texas women’s swimming and diving team was in Puerto Rico for a training trip. The week included several team-building activities including making designs out of sand and playing miniature golf. To conclude the week, the Longhorns swam exhibition races against Colgate on Jan. 3. The Longhorns have gotten off to a good start this season with first place finishes in all of their events including the SMU Women’s Swimming and Diving Classic, a double dual with Michigan and Indiana, a dual with Texas A&M and the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational. It has been over a month since UT last competed when they scored 841.5 points to take the crown at the Texas Invitational. Texas swimmers have posted some of the fastest times in the country this season. Karlee Bispo owns the fastest time in the nation in the 200 freestyle at 1:43.82. Texas has also posted top five times in the 100 freestyle (Bispo, 4th), 200 backstroke (Katie Riefenstahl, 3rd), 200 IM (Bispo, 5th), 200 freestyle relay (4th), 400 freestyle relay (4th) and 200 medley relay (4th).
