Bispo and Hersey swim in 200 free semifinals
June 27, 2012
OMAHA, Neb. -- Former UT swimmers Karlee Bispo and Kathleen Hersey each swam in the semifinals of the 200 freestyle on Wednesday night at the Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb. For Bispo it was her marquee event of the week and for Hersey it was a tune-up for her third and final event, her bread and butter, the 200m butterfly. Bispo was placed in the second heat and was looking to improve on her morning time to make the finals. Even though she swam a faster time it was not what she was looking for as she took 12th place after her swim of 1:59.03. "It was not what I wanted but I have the 100 left," said Bispo. "I felt more tired than I did this morning but it was great to have my first races of the meet. I need to put those behind me though and move forward." Hersey was in the first of the two heats with the top eight of 16 advancing to the finals. She used the race as another practice swim so-to-speak to gain more experience in Olympic Trials before her 200 fly. "I went in knowing I wasn't going to swim the finals regardless because if overlaps with the 200 butterfly, but it is so much fun to swim at this level," said Hersey. "It was about having a great time racing and getting experience in this electric atmosphere. Boy was it fun." The next race for Bispo will be the prelims of the 100 free on Friday morning. Hersey will swim in the 200 butterfly prelims tomorrow morning. The prelims begin at 10 a.m. The 200 butterfly is the only women's race in the morning. The final of the 200 freestyle and 200 IM will take place along with the semifinals of the 200 fly in the evening session which starts at 6:45 p.m. Longhorns in 2012 Olympics Wednesday, June 27 Semifinals Results 200 Freestyle Prelims Results 200 Freestyle (99 swimmers) 200 Individual Medley (113 swimmers)
