FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – On the first day of the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Federal Way, Wash., junior Maren Taylor qualified for the finals in the synchronized women’s 3-meter springboard.

Taylor was competing for the first time in over a year since dislocating her right elbow in the finals of the platform event March 19, 2011, at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.

On Sunday Taylor teamed with UT signee Meghan Houston in the 3m synchronized springboard to start off the week. The duo posted a score of 246.54 in the prelims/quarterfinals to rank sixth overall and move on to the semifinal round. The two got off to a rocky start to the day but executed their third dive well, scoring 62.10 points on the inward 2 1/2 somersault pike. They added two more dives of over 50 points to round out their set.

In the semifinals, Taylor and Houston needed to finish in the top eight to reach the finals. They were able to do so, finishing in the eighth spot with 488.46 points.

Taylor and Houston will compete in the finals on Thursday at 7 p.m.  Taylor will also compete in the individual 3-meter event. The prelims and semifinals will take place Tuesday and the finals will be Saturday.
