Catching up with Meagan Denny
Hey Longhorn fans! I can't believe we're already in the middle of the fall semester now! This past summer I went back home to Crowley, Texas and spent some time with my family. I practiced and worked out every day, and my boyfriend, Cliff, was my catcher. I really enjoyed being with them all summer and finally just being at home. I also took a statistics class over the summer, which luckily wasn't very hard. One of the exciting things I did over the break was pitching in an exhibition game with my old select team against the Great Britain National Team. My Texas teammate, Jacqueline Williams, came and caught for me. We had a really good time, and I actually did pretty well. Now that we're all back from the summer, it's been great to get everyone back together for the new season. As a team, we're all coming together very well and fitting together like a big puzzle. It's really wonderful, and I felt that cohesiveness the very first time we all met for a barbecue at the softball field this year-it just feels right. I'm so impressed with the incoming freshmen. The conditioning and workouts we've been doing are harder than ever, and they're hanging right there with the veterans. Returning for my third year, I feel like I'm in pretty good shape, but these workouts are tough! However, these freshmen are flying right through them. They're hungry to get out there and show what they can do. Not only are they challenging themselves, but they're also meshing really well with the team socially. They aren't scared or intimidated by anything. I don't know if there are words to describe how I feel about being a co-captain this year with Desiree Williams and Megan Willis. I'm ready to jump in the saddle and just get it going. I've been ready for my turn in the pitching circle for two years, and now that time has finally come. I'm just going to be myself, do what I do, and see where it takes me. It will be interesting to have such a young team, but we have a good mix of experienced players too. Some of us have been to the Women's College World Series one or two times, and it's still our ultimate goal this year to reach the World Series and win the whole thing. There certainly won't be a red carpet laid out for us though, and we'll have a bunch of hills to climb. We're ready to do that though, and we're ready for the challenges that are coming to us. We're going to do the best we can as a family, as one unit, and get the job done. Come watch us play this Wednesday! Hook 'em,
