Three incoming 2013 freshmen players ranked in the top 100 nationally

2012 ESPN High School 100 Softball Rankings Three incoming Texas Softball players are rated in the Top 100 nationally according to ESPN in its latest high school rankings. Erin Shireman (Pearland, Texas/Lutheran South Academy) is ranked No. 15 overall nationally, Stephanie Ceo (Lake of the Pines, Calif./Bear River HS) is ranked No. 20 overall and Holly Kern (Plano, Texas/Plano East HS) is ranked No. 32 nationally. Shireman is rated as the No. 3 catcher in the nation, batting .615 this season at Lutheran South Academy. She was a three-sport standout in softball, basketball and track and field as she garnered all-state and all-district honors on the diamond in 2011. She helped her Impact Gold team to a third-place finish at the 2011 ASA Gold Nationals and a fourth-place finish in 2010. Ceo is ranked as the No. 4 outfielder in the nation after earning 2012 Cal-Hi Sports All-State Second Team honors among medium schools based on her .489 batting average on the season. She was an all-state first team pick among medium schools in 2011 and a second-team pick among all California schools. Ceo is a two-time all-league selection and was named league MVP as a junior. In 2011, she hit .549 with 39 runs scored, 23 RBI and 12 extra-base hits. Kern is ranked as the No. 5 player in the state of Texas and No. 8 pitcher in the nation. She was named 2012 Dallas-area Softball Player of the Year by the Dallas Morning News. She led all area pitchers as a senior by going 33-4 in the circle. At the plate, Kern hit .365 while belting 10 home runs and 47 RBI and led Plano East to the Class 5A state semifinals for the second time in her career. The Longhorns finished the 2012 season with a No. 9 national ranking and 47-13 overall record while reaching the NCAA Super Regional.
