Bennett named 2012 NFCA All-America second team

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Softball senior second baseman Lexy Bennett (Kingwood/Second Baptist HS) was named 2012 second team All-American today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). It's the first time that Bennett has earned All-America honors and the 14th time in Texas history that a softball player has earned NFCA All-America recognition.

Bennett led Texas to a 47-13 overall record and berth in the NCAA Super Regional after batting .422 (73-for-173) with 14 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 57 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Her .422 average was the second-highest in school history (behind her .438 average she recorded last year) and set school single-season records for RBI (57) and total bases (132).

She also set many career records for the Longhorn program. Bennett now holds UT career records for batting average (.385), on-base percentage (.464), runs scored (166), hits (245), RBI (155), total bases (414) and sacrifice flies (10). She is currently second for slugging percentage (.650) and doubles (47).

This season, she registered 19 multi-hit games as she had six games with three hits and one with a season-high four hits. She had a team-leading 16 multi-RBI games. In eight games during the postseason, she batted .609 (14-for-23) with three doubles, three home runs and five RBI for the Longhorns.

She earned NFCA All-Central Region and Big 12 Conference first team honors, along with being named Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Softball third team.
