Bennett earns 2012 Academic All-America third team honors

AUSTIN, Texas - Texas Softball senior second baseman Lexy Bennett (Kingwood, Texas/Second Baptist HS) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team, earning third team honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Bennett is the sixth player in Texas Softball history to earn academic All-America honors and the first since 2003 when Cat Osterman earned third team recognition. She recorded a 3.35 grade-point-average in physical culture and sports and participated in graduation ceremonies last Friday. Bennett is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection (2011 and 2012) and seven-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. On the field, Bennett will leave her mark in the Texas record books. She currently holds UT career records for batting average (.382), on-base percentage (.462), runs scored (162), hits (240) and RBI (153). This season, she set the Texas single-season record for RBI. She is batting .415 (68-for-164) this season with 13 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, 55 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Texas is hosting Oregon this weekend in NCAA Super Regional action.
